La Gallinara was born in 1986 and is located in Albenga. Albenga has the biggest harvest of PDO basil all over the Ligury (PDO basil is only grown in the Ligury region). They buy the fresh basil and process it in the same day. The name La Gallinara is taken from a tiny island off the coast of Liguria, in front of Albenga where wild chickens used to roam, but which today is a nature reserve visited primarily by divers. La Gallinara is also closely linked to the nature of Albenga, where one harvests the beautiful, fragrant basil that is so crucial to the right taste and colour in the company's pestos.
