Palacios Remondo
Coming from a prestigious La Rioja wine family, Álvaro Palacios would have been guaranteed a prime position in the family winery: the world famous Palacios Remondo. However, he decided to make his own way. After studying oenology in Bordeaux, he had the enviable job of working under Pomerol superstar, Châteaus Pétrus winemaker Jean Pierre Moueix. When he returned to Spain, he founded his own winery in the region of Priorat.
Upon his father’s death in 2000, Alvaro assumed responsibility for Palacios Remondo, together with respected winemaker René Barbier and a few others. The jewel of the winery is the fabulous La Montesa vineyard, set on the hillsides of Monte Yerga. Here, Garnacha – the region’s natural variety – produces wines that stand out for their freshness and aromatic nose. A Garnacha expert thanks to his work in Priorat, Palacios has made this variety the dominant grape in his Palacios Remondo reds.
