Having stood as a monastery for over 1,000 years, Tenuta San Leonardo made their first vintage in 1982. Based in the subalpine region of Trentino, San Leonardo produce stunning blended wines from the Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carmenere. The wines of San Leonardo express utter elegance and incredible consistency, vintage after vintage (indicative of the care and attention given to their 26 hectare plot).

The site is home to the Marchesi of the Guerrieri Gonzaga family. Having studied oenology in Lausanne in the early 1950s, Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga subsequently worked for many years as a winemaker for Sassicaia. He brought a masterful understanding of Bordeaux varietals home to the estate with him and set his sights on making one of the most elegant wines produced anywhere in the world. It is the careful cultivation of Carmenere that gives Tenuta San Leonardo its unique expression of onion flower and cardamom (along with the black fruit, plums, leather and spice you would expect from an oak-aged blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot). Normally a tricky grape to grow, Carmenere is now cultivated slowly and by Carlos’ son Anselmo, who today runs the estate.

We are so privileged to work with our friends at Tenuta San Leonardo and we are delighted to bring to you the 2017 vintage, a wine which is aromatic, complex and utterly delicious.
